Kids Craft Idea – Making Waxed Paper Leaves

Material needed include:Autumn leaves of various sizes and shapes that is easily available in the outdoors. Old newspapers are always available and they are always handy when sticking or using colors. A pair of scissors, waxed paper cut into eight inches squares with iron board or covered tabletop. Crayons with bright colors like red, orange, yellow and green with pencil sharpener, iron, paper punch and yam or string.

Instructions:Collect autumn leaves from the garden. They may be damp, lay them straight on a newspaper and let them dry overnight. Cover the iron board with several layers of newspaper in order to protect it. You can get an adult to set the iron to medium heat. Use the scissors in order to cut the wax paper into 8 inch squares. You will need two hangings and make colorful crayon shavings on paper plate. Arrange the sheet of waxed paper on the newspapers and arrange several leaves in pattern on the waxed paper.

Sprinkle a thin layer of crayon shavings across the leaves, and then cover with a second sheet of waxed paper. Cover the waxed paper on top of the newspapers and place iron on top. Use adult supervision to hold the iron on the craft for thirty seconds until the crayon wax has melted and the waxed paper sheets stick together. Let it cool completely and use a paper punch in order to make a hole in the top center of the square. Loop a string through the hole and tie a knot. Hand this in sunny window. Several leaves can be used for the kids doing the craft at home.

One can also get creative while making the kids craft idea by cutting the wax paper in the shape of the leave to form colorful collection of leaves that can be stored all year round. Several leaves can also be stringed together and draped across a window.
