Where to Eat in Jakarta

These are just some of the places that you can go to satisfy your Indonesian food craving or to start having your Indonesia culinary adventure.

Saung Granvil

For the best seafood in town, you definitely have to go to Saung Grenvil in West Jakarta. Its location in the Grenvil residential complex might throw off unsuspecting connoisseur but their mouth-watering dishes speak for themselves.

The restaurant’s most popular item is the “Kepiting Lada Hitam” or Black Pepper Crabs but my personal favorite is Steamed Male Crab, which can weigh more than 2 kg each. The best part of the dining experience is that you get to pick the crabs, which will be weighed on the spot.

Its menu includes soto ceker (chicken feet), soto ayam (chicken), soto kikil (beef tendon), soto Madura and soto babat (beef tripe). The rich and tasty soto soup is set to delight your tasting buds.

Bubur Ayam Mangga Besar I

This is one of the best places to have your late night meal in Jakarta. Personally, I have been to this place many times and I haven’t been able to find a comparable congee restaurant in Jakarta. Bubur Ayam Mangga Besar is always full of customers, craving for a late night meal.

Some of the items that I like to order are: plain congee, steamed chicken, grilled chicken, and salted egg. This place is relatively cheap for a late night meal that is guaranteed to delight your taste buds.

Bakmi GM

Bakmi GM is a short name for Bakmi Gajah Mada, a famous noodle restaurant chain in Indonesia. Why Gajah Mada? Gajah Mada is the name of the street in Jakarta where the first Bakmi GM opened in 1970. At that time, Bakmi GM is only a small noodle stall. Because of its delicious and tasty noodles, Bakmi GM’s branches are all over Jakarta. What makes their noodle special is that it is hand-made with chosen flour and recipe.

They have many special menus, such as their famous Bakmi Pangsit Goreng (fried wonton noodle), meatball noodle, chicken noodle, and special GM noodle. In case you are not really into noodles, they also serve various fried rice and side dishes such as siomay (dumpling), meatball tofu and wonton. When you eat at Bakmi GM, you can’t go wrong: the homemade noodle, the deep-fried wonton, the fried rice are all remarkable.
